History and Food
This program provides students a “taste” of history. Working in partnership with FARMS (Focus on Agriculture in Rural Maine Schools) in Damariscotta, the LCHA Education Department offers schools an opportunity to mix history with food. Students can learn recipes from the colonial era, Civil War era, World War II, and other historic periods. Students not only prepare these historic recipes to enjoy, they also learn basic cooking skills. For each class, Louise Miller adds historical background to the foodways of the time period that are the focus of the day.

Thanks to grants that support the FARMS school program, the cost to the school is $125 per class, payable to FARMS.
A Place Called Damariscotta – Its Early Beginnings
The Damariscotta Historical Society and the Lincoln County Historical Association’s Education staff prepared the exhibit “A Place Called Damariscotta–Its Early Beginnings.” Geared to grades three through six, the exhibit highlights historical details of the Damariscotta area pre-contact to 1800. Students engage with informational panels and a variety of objects, and hear from tour guides, learning about the people, events, and trades that shaped what is now the Town of Damariscotta.
This program is free to schools (public, private, and home schools).
Tours are available Monday – Friday.
Times for visits are flexible and can be arranged when making reservations.

The History of Maine Through its Rivers
Rivers run through the heart of everyone’s history, but this is especially true in Maine. Our local rivers hold important lessons for students, helping them understand both the environment and the history of their homes. LCHA Board Member and river historian Scot McFarlane offers free in-person or virtual consultations to support Maine social studies teachers. 17th Century Lincoln County
A trip to Colonial Pemaquid State Historic Site introduces students to various aspects of seventeenth century daily life along the mid-coast, as well as the archeology work done in this area. The LCHA Education Department works in partnership with Colonial Pemaquid to provide this special field trip to schools. The program runs for approximately two hours and is free for schools.
