Summer with the Past- Music History
August 3 @ 9:00 am - August 7 @ 1:00 pm EDT
Sea Shanties, Shapenote, & School Dances of 18th & 19th Century Maine. Camp for Ages 10-15 (August 3 – August 7)
Ever wondered what music was like before streaming… before radios… or even electricity?
August 3–7, kids ages 10–15 can step back into 18th & 19th century Maine and actually try the music for themselves.
Participants will enjoy:
- Learning old ballads
- Trying traditional instruments
- Musical games
- A real “singing school” experience
- Traditional dances
It’s hands-on, interactive, and a chance to see how music brought communities together long before playlists and streaming.
The week is led by Kelley Doore of Clary Lake Music Lessons and takes place at the historic Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Children should bring their own snacks and lunch.
Fee: $135 ($110 with LCHA member discount).
